Kitchen islands are extremely popular in homes that have a modern design. The shape of the island is dependent on your personal taste and style, as well as the availability of space to accommodate one in the kitchen. The islands can vary in shape from oval and round to rectangular and circular. Some islands may be small and relatively inexpensive, while others can be massive and expensive.
Kitchen islands have a number of uses. They provide additional storage space for appliances, knife blocks, cutting boards and household appliances. The sides of the island as well as under the island may be used to store cookbooks and extra utensils. In addition to storage, they provide additional counter space for prepping. Especially when baking or prepping food and drinks for a large number of individuals, a kitchen island will be quite handy.
Of course, if you desire additional seating, outfit your island with high chairs and stools to create more seats for entertaining. Try not to add more than three or four seats, as the space will become cluttered quite easily. Although the seating isn’t formal, you still need your guests to be comfortable.
Beautify the area around your island with appropriate lighting. Pendant lighting is great above kitchen island and will add brightness to the kitchen overall. If your island was added after the kitchen was already built, try to be consistent with the use of counter top material and the base of the island. Likewise, your chairs and stools should be consistent with the overall theme of the kitchen.
Do you prefer kitchen islands with seating? Or do you prefer to use your island solely for prep work?
